How did you do on your audio?
This week I learned about audio podcasting. Wasn’t really my thing, I was nervous and had no idea what to do. After going through tutorials and researching some podcasts. I got an idea on what I wanted to do for mine. My intentions for my podcast project was really to be open about my life, and let everyone know about my personal side. Also, how my life changed for the better.
My process was planned by writing down what I was going to say, print it out and have it by me to read off of. I was easy for me because I didn’t have to remember what I wanted to say, It was all in writing on a paper right in my hands. I made sure not to move the paper too much so that when I played my audio you could hear more of me and what I was talking about rather than a piece of paper moving every time I did.
The most successful part of my podcast this week was that I actually went through with it. That I actually expressed my inner self to everyone about me being adopted. It was a big change, I hardly ever come out and tell people I’m adopted, I just thought that being family orientated, it would go perfect on my website.
I honestly don’t think I’d change anything if I had time, I would more or less add to it. There’s more I wanted to say, but I didn’t want to drag people on and on about my life. I just started with really how I got here, how my life started in Vermont. I care about a lot of people in my life, I went years without knowing about my birth mom. I sat down at the table and was handed everything all at once, honestly it was a lot to talk in. I do have hope, and I do hope to find my birth mom, but that doesn’t mean I am going to change or edit my podcast. I think it shows the real me.

Straight Photography or Art of Manipulation
Do you rather straight photography over art of manipulation? Well, for me I would have to say I think straight photography better because why take a photo and change it? I could never understand why people always want to take a photo of themselves or of something they like and change it to make it seem like they’re somewhere nice, or they’re doing something fun. I think that straight photography is better, and shows true character because it’s original, not fake. Straight photography uses the basic camera techniques to create photos that are manipulated the least possible way, resulting in what is called a real image. Just because someone takes a straight photo and doesn’t edit it or change it doesn’t meant they are boring. Not every picture in the world is manipulated to make a real photo pop more.
Why art of manipulation? Art of manipulation is where you can change a picture to make it seem clearer and new. Why would you want to change a photo when you can just take an original and have it come out perfect? Lots of people manipulate photos to show eye catching character, but when it comes to someone’s photo that was perfectly fine, why change it? Some people can change a picture for the worst, I wouldn’t true anyone with a photo of mine because how would I know if they change it for worse or better? Art of Manipulation is kind of like manipulating a person to make them seem like something they’re not. Would you want to hide your true identity? Although, manipulating a photo is fun, because you get to go through all the effects and animation for a photo, but I still don’t see why changing a photo would be fun. Maybe changing a photo that’s not going to be display in public can be changed, but I’m all for originality, and having a real picture shows more character than changing a picture to be eye catching or fun.
In the end, it comes down to what you like best. If you’re all for manipulating a photo because you love the way the lighting makes it pop, or because you love the way it looks, they manipulating photos is all for you. If you like your photos to be original and show you, yourself and your true colors than go with the straight photography. I believe that both of these two methods of photography will expand in the future for the better. More people will manipulate photos because they like it, and others will continue to use digital cameras, take a real picture, and upload it as original. I just think that putting someone’s edited photo on the internet or media is a waste and doesn’t seem right. If someone has a photo on the internet or media, let it be real, let people see the original, don’t change it.

Essay on The Big Picture

Essay: The Big Picture
Professor: Lisa Brooks
The Big Picture!
In the online Multimedia Apps and Tools Online class, I would like to learn about all the different technology that most teens are using these days. I want to learn more about what I can do on a computer, what I can make, and how to do it. What makes me nervous about taking a tech course online? Well, I'm a shy person at times, so when I hear that I have to use a video recorder or a microphone for an online class, I tend to freak out. I know most classes required it, but I get nervous to the point where I get out of the class. That's the way I've been all my life, I've come out of it a little, but there are those times that come right back to me out of the blue. This is not my first online class, I have taken lots of online classes because I work full time and don't have much time to leave work for a face to face class. The only technology that I have is more from Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), but in my business class that I took my junior and senior year I have learned how to make a website. I have never blogged before, nor have I read them, I don't have much free time and when I do have free time, I'm not on my computer much. Some of the things I went over in class were:
1. Copyright/Plagiarism
After listening to Collette Vogele, I was very interested to do more research because the five things she focused on seemed to be quite interested and I wanted to know more. I never would have thought copyright is a great thing, I always got told that you never want to copyright someone else's works. When I was researching I viewed quite a bit of sites most of them said the same thing. I actually ran across the same site as a girl in my class, while reading the site I came across some important facts. First, Plagiarism is dishonesty, most people these days know how to copy and paste them submit as their own, little do they know that they are plagiarizing and that person can get into trouble. When it comes to copy and pasting, people should make it into their own creative work than using someone else's creative work. Second, Copyright protects the original works of an author because they use their own creative works not others, therefore, when someone buys a book at a bookstore, there's a copyright date and description of the rule of Copyright Act 1976 on the right page. And third, the "A Free Society" section shocked me because most people don't cite their sources, and that's where things go wrong. If someone is reading an article and takes some key points out of that article into their paper then the proper thing to do is cite your source at the end of your paper. You don't have authorized rights to take other peoples creative works, the people doing their own creative works have the copyright law to do so. So, knowing more about the copyright law, has made me realize how so many people try to use original works when they don't have a right to. Copyright made me think more along the lines of being able to know what you can and can’t do with works of writing from others, or ones you find on the internet. This means a lot to me because during high school we would have to have the plagiarism talk almost every day. There’s a lot of people that think plagiarism and copyright are perfectly fine to do, but in reality, it’s a horrible situation to get into, especially if you get caught. Copyright and plagiarism are pretty important in multimedia, technology, and the world in general because you’re working with a lot of articles, readings, videos, and having to do projects about what you read or writing about what you read. If you have to read an article then write about it in your own words, then do it, don’t take someone else’s work and call it yours.
2. News
I chose the article "Ellen Page Comes Out As Gay" because it was an interesting article. I am for gay people, I'm not against them like a lot of other people, so this article stood out to me because when someone has the nerve to finally come out and tell the whole world they're gay, it's a good thing. They don't have to worry about people pushing it to get it out, but the downside is that they will have to deal with the people that don't like gays. Just because someone doesn't like gay's doesn't mean they have to announce it to the world and be rude about it. It bugs me when people are running their mouths about people that are gay, gay people are just like straight people. There really isn't a big difference. This article tops my favorite story because when someone can come out and say what they really are shows true character. I chose this over the others because Huffington post has good stories that seem interesting to read about, and there are a lot of stories that you can chose from to read. I have always chose the Huffington post when it comes to finding stories to read and write about. This article engaged me because I am not against gays, and it frustrates me how people think that just because a celebrity or someone popular is gay that they have to explode it to the world. This is important for multimedia, technology, and the world in general because there’s a lot of people that are gay in the world, but don’t come out and say it. Why do they have to? They can keep it to themselves or to the closest people around them.
3. Web love 2 hate
When I've discussed website design in the past I've said that factors such as simple, but good aesthetic design, clear navigation, and offering your visitors a clear description of your product/service should be some of the chief goals you try to achieve. Unfortunately, Penny Juice fails to achieve all of these things.
What you get when arriving on the website's homepage is a confusing mess of bright colors that run the entire gamut of the rainbow. This is accompanied by text that is almost completely written in caps and bright white. Other issues include the fact that there is no clear navigation above the fold and the entire page is comprised of testimonials. What you can assume from reading these testimonials is that the product may be some type of fruit juice formula for babies.
The design itself is too intense, lacking clear navigation, and doesn't really tell you outright what the product is. The design of the site does not fare any better on its other pages, which you can only navigate to by scrolling right down to the bottom of each page.
This is important because why have a website that looks like “crap”. It’s important to have a website look good for advertisement purposes, job purposes, and personal view purposes. This topic engaged me because I got to go look for bad and good website designs, it’s not that hard to find a really bad website design that I thought didn’t look professional. When I searched for a good website design I found a lot, I couldn’t decide which ones I liked the most.
4. Tech Toys
While watching the video about the talking tiles, I found out that they exist. I would say that the siftables could be used for both fun and educational purposes because they can use the blocks for math, music, color, games, stories, and stacking. I think it will be a good thing because most of the tech toys will or at least can teach kids new fundamental ways of learning. I didn't find anything new, but what tech toy would you make? Or what tech toy would you have you kid play with (if you had one, or if you plan on having one). This was important because there are a lot of new toys being made in the world now. Not everyone wants to go out and buy the same toy all the time, which is why more people are coming out with the tech toys creations. They can play and learn from some of the new toys being made now, from counting to pictures.
5. Fonts
Fonts...well let's see, there was a lot that I read about, but what really interests me? Well I did some more research on fonts because I have always wondered how to tell which font is better, or which font goes with what story. When I was in high school in my business class we learned some about font types and which font was better to us for essays, or book writing, or web design. My teacher game us a print out of a table they call "The Periodic Table of Typefaces". Well I used that table a lot throughout the rest of my high school days, it came in handy. Fonts are important when it comes to writing a paper or doing any kind of assignment that involves using a computer to write, you have to know what font is better to use. You can’t just pick a random font when you’re trying to be professional at writing. When you’re writing an email, and you pick a cursive font style, is the person going to be able to read it? Maybe if it’s in big font size, but why not pick something professional and easy to read at 12 point font size.
6. Good, Bad, and Ugly Presentations
My experiences with using slide shows is when I was taught that showing important information in a compact and concise way on the site is important because when it comes time to present a presentation to a class, you don't want clutter. When it comes to making a PowerPoint I was always told the dos and dont’s. My teacher back in high school gave me a list of dos and dont’s, I actually kept them. They are:
Dos:
7. Creative Commons
Creative commons develops, supports, and stewards legal and technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity, sharing, and innovation. Creative Common’s vision is realizing the full potential of the Internet to drive a new era of development, growth, and productivity. CC gives you flexibility, and protects the people who use your work, so they don’t have to worry about copyright infringement. CC has hundreds of millions of works such as songs, videos, scientific, and academic material, and it's all free to the public. Copyright was created long before the emergence of the Internet, and can make it hard to legally perform actions we take for granted on the network: copy, paste, edit source, and post to the Web. The default setting of copyright law requires all of these actions to have explicit permission, granted in advance, whether you’re an artist, teacher, scientist, librarian, policymaker, or just a regular user. To achieve the vision of universal access, someone needed to provide a free, public, and standardized infrastructure. That someone was Creative Commons. CC's tools give everyone from individual creators to large companies, and large institutions a simple, and standardized way to keep their copyright while allowing certain uses of their work.
8. iPod Art
I never thought you could do something like that except to post them to a social networking site like Facebook, or Myspace. With all this new iPhone Photography apps I would have to say that the art world in general would disappear, and people would use the smartphones more for art projects. Schools now a days are using iPads for kids to take home and do homework on, that gives students a good learning experience and they can use their iPad for an art project if they have one. I feel as though technology is taking over the world, slowly at times, but eventually there will be a lot of changes with technology and real world. Photography is becoming more tech savvy, and I think it will continue to grow because there are a lot of people out there that love photography. I would recommend iPhoneArt.com to anyone that needs a place to share photos and art. I am what you can a iPhone Photography lover, I love taking pictures, no matter how they look, if it's a cow in the field with the sun in the background, I'll snap a picture of it. I love photography, although I'm not going to school for it, I still love taking pictures.
9. Kindle/Speech
It's hard to explain what exactly I think about the voice over Kindle because I have a Kindle fire, doesn't read to me, but it's nice to use when I want to use it. I would have to say that the voice reading to you part isn't my ideal thought at first, but once you actually get it and listen to it, I bet it's nice because then you don't have to read out loud yourself or read silently. But again, I honestly think it's an odd thing. Would you think a Kindle would ever be able to read to you? I feel as though it's a waste of money because why have something that reads to you when in school you are taught to read out loud or silently? I feel like technology now is starting to move people more into it rather than letting the schools teach them right. I have not heard of a lawsuit, but it really wouldn't surprise me if there was one because technology seems to be pushing its way into the eye of the kids. I don't think there really has to be a lawsuit, but why make technology that can talk for you while reading now? This is kind of a start to technology take over to me. What about playing movies on iPhones? Where is the lawsuit for that? What if I purchased a book online and it read aloud to me, where is the lawsuit for that? I feel like every new technology that's being made nowadays is becoming more and more copyright, it's like no one cares, they just want the money for the products sold. Technology is becoming a bit more ridiculous in a way. This is important because when it comes to technology how are kids going to be able to go buy a book and read it out loud to their kid when they get old enough to have one? This just blows my mind because technology shouldn’t be pushing into kid’s school time and learning.
10. Long Tail
If I could go to the store and know for a fact that my product/s or whatever I wanted to buy was there, heck I'd go, but because I know or have an idea that it won't be there, then why not jump online and shop. However, when shopping online you get a list of products that other people bought along with the product you're looking at, or a list of other products you could buy, whereas you walk into a store and pick up the product you want without even thinking about what else you could buy with that product, or even what other people bought online. This applies to me and the world because everyone has the choice to go into a store or shop online without that choice people wouldn't be using the internet and seeing what is going on in the online world.
11. Generation F
Online life is sometimes a better way to get in touch with other around you that you have no other way of communication other than Facebook. Most workplaces are connected to the internet nowadays, so if I can't email or get in any other contact with my reps for my store then I wouldn't have a way to send them a dog food order (for example). It would also be hard for me to go on vacation without online life because basically everything is online now (hotels, travel sites, maps, etc.). I'm also the type of person that takes a lot of pictures when I'm on vacation so without my Facebook(where I post most of my pictures), I wouldn't be able to post them until I got home. This is important because most businesses nowadays are connecting with Facebook, and communicating through Facebook with other dealers.
12. Outdated Copyright
I would have to say that Lawrence is wrong in a way because not many kids are turning into criminals. I don't think kids are turning into criminals because they can't take videos or pictures and remix them or edit them. I know some people that aren't turning into criminals because of the copyright laws stopping them from doing what they like to do which is remixing movies, or editing photos. I think that remixing isn't a bad thing, it's just taking something original and remixing it into something better. No one wants to watch a boring video or show when they can remix it and then watch it. Lawrence has a point that no one is really breaking the copyright law when it comes to remixing it to make it spicy and worth watching. Very short and simple, copyright law is not out of date.
The key here is that the remix of the work would be non-monetary. The remixing artist, nor anyone else, could not make profit from the original work. In this case, the remixed work would be no different than what fan fiction is to the worlds of screen and print. Remixing should be allowed, but only under certain limitations. Original artists should retain their copyright and their ability to turn a profit from their work, they're the ones that put the time and effort into creating the original work, after all.

When it comes to making a PowerPoint I was always told the dos and dont’s. My teacher back in high school gave me a list of dos and dont’s, I actually kept them. They are:
Dos:
- Know your audience. Each could require a different type or amount of information
- Use a professional-designed template to set your PowerPoint apart from the rest
- Keep it simple. Use minimal content on every slide to get your point across
- Maintain a consistent train of thought and message flow
- Establish the problem early and then move on to how you solve it
- Use visuals like charts and graphics only if it enhances the message
- Use color and animation carefully (Only to enhance a specific point)
- And End with a summary slide of your key points and final benefits
- Don’t use a generic template that’s been seen thousands of times
- Don’t use “Random” for any type of transition or animation element (Pick something subtle and stick with it)
- Don’t use slide transitions between body slides (Transitions from main slide types is alright if used attractively)
- Don’t use unnecessary text animations or sound effects (They can distract from your point)
- Don’t use generic clip art unless you’re speaking to third graders
- Don’t use more than 5-7 bullet lines on a slide depending on your font size
- Don’t use crazy fonts that no one else will have on their system
- Don’t use more than 20-25 slides
- Don’t read off of each slide
- And Stick to a consistent color theme for all fonts and elements used throughout.
